• Is experience necessary?

Not a bit! I have worked with everyone from a retired detective who never touched a paintbrush to world famous artists and everyone in between. All that is necessary is an open mind and a wee bit of courage.

  • What are the benefits of Creative Sessions?

Creative Sessions promote autonomy, choice-making, connection, meaning, and purpose. They can reduce the emotional symptoms of memory loss, like anxiety, apathy, and anger. Additionally, I am happy to work with your care team to use our sessions as a fun way to advance PT, OT, or Speech Therapy goals.

  • How often will we meet?

This one is up to you! Some individuals and groups choose to meet weekly, while others meet every other week, or monthly.

  • Will I create masterpieces?

Maybe! I want everyone to be set up for success, but a perfect masterpiece is not the goal. My approach is process-based. I hope you will enjoy playing with words, squishing paint, and laughing together while you share your story.

  • I have a hobby I'd love to do more of. Can you help?

Absolutely! During our first meeting, I’ll learn about your past and present hobbies. I will work with you to develop a flexible plan that is unique to you!

  • What if my loved one has advanced dementia? Will this help?

I find that the arts are incredibly beneficial for people at any stage of life. In my experience, those who appear to be unable to participate often benefit the most.

  • I am a care partner. Can I attend, too?

Yes! I love working with individuals, pairs, and small groups. I will even set up a special creative experience for you and your family to (re)connect. That said, it is also marvelous for people living with memory loss to attend sessions on their own to promote autonomy.

  • What happens during a consultation?

It is important to make sure that we jive before committing to building a relationship. In your first complimentary 45-minute meeting, we will get to know each other and discuss your goals. I’m always ready to roll my sleeves up and create together at a consultation, if you’d like!

  • What are your COVID precautions?

I am vaccinated and boosted. Since I work with a vulnerable population, I also test regularly to ensure clients’ health. I ask that all clients who work with me in person are vaccinated, as well.

  • Does insurance cover Sessions?

Unfortunately, insurance will not cover sessions at this time. I offer small group programs on a sliding scale to help make sessions accessible to more people.

  • Are you an Art Therapist?

Nope! I have my Master’s in Integrated Teaching Through the Arts from Lesley University. I have been trained by some of the top researchers and practitioners in non-pharmaceutical interventions for dementia and stay up to date on current trends in the Creative Aging field.

  • What is your training?

I have a masters in Integrated Teaching Through the Arts from Lesley University, was trained by the internationally known I’m Still Here Foundation, and am a TimeSlips certified practitioner. I also regularly attend Creative Aging professional development conferences and courses, such as the Eden Alternative and the Creative Center’s Training Institute for Arts in Healthcare and Creative Aging.
